Sonny: Looks like the coffee business has its best number in years, thank you very much.

Max: Congratulations, Mr. C.

Sonny: Nothing more from Karpov, right?

Max: It looks like he’s going to let you pull out of your deal with him without any consequences.

Kate: So I have to say, it’s a little over the top, but it has a kitschy sort of charm, and I think it might be made out of solid gold, so in the right spot, I could learn to love it.

Sonny: What are you talking about?

Kate: The wedding gift that was just delivered from your friend, Andrei Karpov.

Sonny: A gift from Karpov was delivered to your house?

Kate: Mm-hmm, and I’m sure it will be fine in the right spot. It’s a copy of a Faberge music box. You don’t think it could be the real thing? How wealthy is this Karpov?

Sonny: Go, go get the — get it, Max.

Kate: It’s on the dining room table.

Sonny: And have — have somebody deliver it.

Kate: Obviously, something is wrong, and I don’t think it’s that you dislike Russian knickknacks. You going to tell me? What’s going on?

Sonny: Karpov is a mobster.

Sonny: The woman who was here the other day, right? Sasha Donev — she’s Andrei Karpov’s attorney.

Kate: So Karpov is the man with mob ties who lied to you? Begs the question, why’d you get involved with him in the first place?

Sonny: It was a simple, legitimate business arrangement, and he came here, and we negotiated a deal.

Kate: Mm-hmm, to distribute coffee beans to Eastern Europe?

Sonny: Andrei Karpov misrepresented himself from start to finish. I — I acted in good faith, and I realized that the deal was bait to pull me back into the life, and I — I said no, we’re done. And then, you know, I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

Kate: And he let you?

Sonny: Well, he’s not happy. That — you know, that wedding present is not a gift. It’s probably a reminder that I blew the deal.

Kate: Well, I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you. I wish you had told me.

Sonny: I was doing everything with good intentions, and, you know, I wanted everything to work out for everybody, and I just took Karpov at his word, and I — I should have done more research.

Kate: Mm-hmm. Well, then, it’s good you sent the wedding gift back, right?

Sonny: Okay, yeah, yeah.

Kate: I’m glad that you stuck to your principles, that you recognize that we have enough, so you don’t have to go back to the mob. But what I’m most grateful about is that I don’t have to worry at night that you’re going to be dragged back into the danger.

Kate: So what happens now, hmm? Karpov’s gift gets returned. He could be insulted. Could he retaliate?

Sonny: Look at you, all worried, asking questions that you don’t want to know the answer to. That’s why I turned on Karpov, because I’m not going back to that life.

Kate: I just want to know what we’re in for.

Sonny: Nothing. You think — you think I’d put you in a position where you would question whether you’re safe with me?

Kate: I would like to know that you’re safe.

Sonny: Karpov has no power in Port Charles. That’s why he came to me to begin with. He’s going to have to deal with Jason now, and if he doesn’t, he’s going to pack his bags and leave town. I don’t care which, as long as I’m not involved and you’re not worried.

Kate: I want to know — when Jason was here the other times, those two times –

Sonny: Right.

Kate: Was that about Karpov?

Sonny: It’s what I told you it was. I — I talked to Jason, and I said, “Hey, you know what? I can’t help you anymore. I don’t want to get pulled back in this life, because I don’t want to jeopardize what I have, because I’m starting a new life. That’s important to me.”

Kate: I like the sound of that.

Sonny: So, how many Faberge gift boxes do I have to buy to make up for the one you lost today?
