Claudia: What are you going to threaten me about? What are you not going to threaten me about?
Kate: Now, what would Sonny have to threaten you about?
Claudia: If you have to ask why Sonny would threaten me, you don’t know your fiancé very well.
Sonny: Before you get revved up, I will not allow you to disrespect my fiancée in my house.
Claudia: None intended.
Sonny: Okay.
Claudia: No, no, no. I was most respectfully pointing out that you’ve been in the mob a lot longer than you’ve been out of it, which means, you know, old habits die hard and old animosities still apply. So, I.E., a threat could erupt at any time. You better get prepared, sweetheart. Wishing something away doesn’t make it disappear.
Kate: Oh, I don’t know. You’re leaving now, aren’t you?
Claudia: Good one. Are we done?
Sonny: Yep.
Claudia: It’s always a pleasure to see you.
Sonny: Great.
Kate: You know that woman’s not on the wedding list.
Sonny: No, I know. She’s just trying to make you uneasy.
Kate: Well, she’s succeeded.
Sonny: What?
Kate: Sonny, I know that you love me. I know you would never sleep with Claudia again, but it makes me curious that she’s here the day after that Jason was. Is there something going on? Are they trying to drag you back into the business?
Sonny: No. And if they were, it wouldn’t matter. ‘Cause what I want is the life that I’m planning with you.
Kate: God, I hope you mean that.
Kate: I’d like a word.
Claudia: [Sighs] I have had just about all I can stomach of you for one day. Since Sonny’s not around to protect your delicate assets, I don’t think so.
Kate: Claudia, I think I can handle you.
Claudia: Well, have at it, then.
Kate: Okay. So I realize that you are a predator, both sexually and the way that you troll for the mob. But trying to pull Sonny back into the business after what it’s cost him, I mean, that’s really low — even for you. Don’t you feel the least bit guilty about what happened to Michael?
Claudia: You know, I could ask you the very same thing about Michael’s shooting. But then I already know the answer. Why should you feel bad? The bullet in that little boy’s brain got you everything you wanted.
Kate: Excuse me?
Claudia: Oh, it did. It was the final break between Sonny and Carly. And Sonny’s so messed up in the head now — well, he’s completely dependent on you. It’s a great way to guilt him out of the mob.
Kate: Wow, you really are evil. To imply that I would actually skew the horrible tragedy that happened to his son for my own advantage?
Claudia: But that’s what you’ve done. I mean, it’s what you do every day, Kate. It’s what you do every single day. And by the way, you’re living in a fool’s paradise. There’s no way this fantasy can hold Sonny. He’s still the same man he’s always been. He’s hooked on power, he’s dangerous. He’s borderline psycho, Kate, and he’s drawn to his industry because he’s really good at running it. It’s where he feels confident, it’s where he feels comfortable. And I’ll tell you something, he is never going to be happy hiding from life behind you or some ridiculous career as a coffee merchant. I don’t have to chase after Sonny or try to lure him back to the mob. Because he’ll come back, all on his very own. Because it’s who he is.
Kate: Mm, yeah, see, you’re really good at this smoke and mirrors thing. But my particular strength is focus. So I haven’t been distracted by you or what I came here for. And it’s simple, okay, so you can probably understand it. Sonny loves me and we’re getting married. Because ultimately that is the life he chose for himself, all right? Good.
Claudia: Mm.
Kate: Good, so there’s no room for you and your trashy world. I want you to stay the hell away from Sonny. Enjoy your ice tea.
Claudia: Hey, can I get a vodka rocks, please?
Ric: Hello.
Claudia: You owe me big time.
Maxie: I think that implies Jason doesn’t think I’m trustworthy, and I’m offended.
Spinelli: No, I’m sorry, that was not the Jackal’s intention.
Maxie: You just have to tell Jason that I’m in the loop. I mean, I’m helping you research this guy, and if he doesn’t like it, too flippin’ bad.
Spinelli: Not a phrase to be used when addressing Stone Cold, please?
Kate: Spinelli, out — Maxie and I have work to do and I need her undivided attention.
Spinelli: Yes, the Jackal obeys.
Kate: My wedding has to go off without the smallest hitch or heads will roll.
Kate: So theoretically I have signed off on both dresses.
Maxie: Theoretically.
Kate: Yes, I realized last night that there is a problem with the fabric Federico wants to use. And when I told him about it, I got back artist attitude. Now you need to call him and tell him that he can either make the changes or he can sell the dress to someone else and I’ll get another designer. You’re hesitating, Maxie. Did you not understand the instructions?
Maxie: Do you maybe want to count to ten or something?
Kate: Excuse me?
Maxie: No offense, but you’re just about to blow up on Federico for no reason. And you are the one who taught me to disregard the first conversation you have with talent about their work. Because their first reaction will be defensive. I mean, he probably perceived what you were saying as criticism. And he needs just a little bit of time to let it settle in before he can truly understand your point.
Kate: Well, I like that you listen when I try to teach you.
Maxie: Are you kidding, I’m sponge, you’re water. Anyway, Federico’s an ongoing important relationship for you. I just don’t think now’s the time to throw him an ultimatum.
Kate: Thank you, Maxie, you are right. In fact, I’m going to do you one better, I’m not going to deal with any of this right now. Because clearly I’m obsessing over dresses and wedding plans because they’re dependable even when my groom is not.
Sonny: Why would you think I’m not dependable?
Maxie: I will have Clarice call Federico and feel out his mood.
Kate: Thank you, Maxie, I mean it.
Maxie: Glad I could help.
Sonny: Hey. Why — what — are you still upset because you found Claudia at my house? Because that’s not, you shouldn’t be upset about –
Kate: Sonny this is about me, okay? This is about me, terrified to be happy. This is about me afraid to accept that after all of these years I finally found my first love. After all of the loss and after all of the tragedy and all of the bad choices, that you and I still have the capacity to make a good one. Yeah. I believe that you’re out of the mob, okay?
Sonny: Right.
Kate: I believe that we can have a good life together. And I want it, Sonny, I really — [Groans] I want it — look, if I just — if I get crazy sometimes, those are the reasons why, okay?
Sonny: That’s fine, that is fine, I understand that. But I just want us to be cool, that’s all.
Kate: They’re cool.
Sonny: All right.
Kate: We’re cool, okay? We’re cool.
Sonny: All right.
Kate: And in fact we’re so cool, I’m going to prove it to you. I am going to leave Maxie here to take care of whatever comes up. And we’re going to take that speedboat, the ride that you’ve been agitating for at the Riverfront Restaurant. Okay, let’s go, let’s go right now.
Sonny: What do you mean? I can’t go right now. Not right now, I can’t.
Kate: Why can’t we go right now?
